Common Questions

Can't find your answer here? Call us at (201) 892-6018 — we're happy to talk through any question.

General

Are you licensed and insured to work in New Jersey?

+

Yes. PlumEx LLC is a fully licensed plumbing contractor in the State of New Jersey and carries general liability insurance and workers compensation coverage on every job. You are welcome to ask for our license number and certificate of insurance at any time — we are happy to provide them.

Do you offer free estimates?

+

Yes. We provide free estimates for all non-emergency plumbing, heating, and HVAC work. Call us at (201) 892-6018 or submit a request through our contact form and we will assess the job and give you a clear price before any work begins — no obligation.

What payment methods do you accept?

+

We accept cash, check, and major credit cards. Payment is typically collected at completion of the job. For larger commercial or multi-day projects, we can discuss milestone billing arrangements.

Do you do residential and commercial work?

+

Yes. We handle both residential plumbing and heating for homeowners and full commercial projects for businesses, property managers, and general contractors. See our commercial services page for details on commercial capabilities.

Scheduling & Availability

Do you offer 24/7 emergency plumbing service?

+

Yes. We answer emergency calls around the clock, 365 days a year — including weekends and holidays. For burst pipes, flooding, no heat, or gas leaks, call (201) 892-6018 at any hour and we will respond as quickly as possible. Emergency calls do carry an after-hours service premium, which we disclose upfront.

How quickly can you respond to a same-day service request?

+

For most urgent (non-emergency) calls in Fair Lawn and nearby Bergen County areas, we can often schedule same-day or next-morning service. Call us at (201) 892-6018 and we will give you a realistic arrival window based on our current schedule.

What are your normal business hours?

+

Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Saturday, 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Sunday by appointment or emergency. After-hours emergency service is available 24/7 at the standard emergency rate.

Permits & Licensing

Do you pull permits for plumbing and gas work?

+

Yes. Any work that legally requires a permit — gas lines, new plumbing installations, boiler replacements, water heater replacements in certain municipalities, and more — we pull all permits from your local Bergen County municipality and manage the inspection process start to finish. Your completed work will be properly documented and legally compliant.

Why does permitted work matter for my home?

+

Unpermitted work can create problems when you sell your home (it typically must be disclosed or corrected), may void your homeowner's insurance in some cases, and means the work was never inspected for safety. Permitted work, by contrast, is inspected by the municipality and gives you documented proof that everything was done correctly.

Plumbing & Heating

Should I repair or replace my water heater?

+

If your water heater is under 8 years old and having a specific issue (bad thermostat, failed heating element), repair is usually cost-effective. If it's 10+ years old or having multiple issues, replacement is typically the smarter financial decision. We'll give you an honest assessment and let you decide — no pressure either way.

How often should I have my boiler serviced?

+

Annually — ideally in late summer or early fall before the heating season. Annual service includes cleaning heat exchanger surfaces, testing combustion efficiency, checking safety controls, and inspecting the venting system. This extends boiler life, improves efficiency, and catches small problems before they become expensive failures mid-winter.

Can you tell me what's wrong without opening walls?

+

Often, yes. We use video camera inspection for drain and sewer lines, pressure testing for leak detection, and other diagnostic methods that identify problems without unnecessary damage to your home. We always diagnose before we recommend a repair — and we explain what we found before we start any work.

Is a tankless water heater worth it for a Bergen County home?

+

For most homes, yes — especially larger families or homes that frequently run out of hot water. Tankless units provide endless hot water, last 20+ years (vs 10-12 for tank units), and can reduce water heating costs by 20-30%. The higher upfront cost is typically recovered within 5-8 years through energy savings.
